Free reading of “When Yuri Met Malcolm,” written by Rosie Narasaki and directed by John Miyasaki, on Friday, June 28, at 4 p.m.

Told through the prism of her unlikely friendship with Malcolm X, “When Yuri Met Malcolm” explores the legacy of Yuri Kochiyama. We follow Yuri’s life from her “red, white, and blue” days in the World War II camps, to her rapid radicalization during the civil rights movement, to all her activism that followed through the decades.

Workshop presentation of “Patsy” by Alison Minami on Saturday, June 29, at 4 p.m.

“Patsy” features Kailani, an-18 year-old senior at Maui High School and a star athlete. While waiting to find out if she’s been accepted into her dream school, Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first Asian American congresswoman and former valedictorian of Maui High School, appears before her.

As Mink walks Kailani through the many trials and tribulations she faced, Kailani begins to realize that no matter how many setbacks she encounters, she can succeed as long as she picks herself back up and perseveres.
