TORRANCE — “Madadayo” (1993), Akira Kurosawa’s final film, will be screened on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd St., Torrance.

Following World War II, a retired professor approaching his autumn years finds his quality of life drastically reduced in war-torn Tokyo. Denying despair, he pursues writing and celebrates his birthday with his adoring students. The title means “No, not yet.”

The cast includes Tatsuo Matsumura, Hisashi Igawa, George Tokoro and Kyoko Kagawa.

The movie was nominated for seven Awards of the Japanese Academy in 1994 and won four: Best Supporting Actress (Kagawa), Best Cinematography, Best Lighting and Best Art Direction. The other nominations were for Best Actor (Matsumura), Best Supporting Actor (Tokoro) and Best Music Score.
