The Board of Directors of the Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) is pleased to announce the selection of Sam Joo as the organization’s chief executive officer, effective March 3.

Joo brings a distinguished career in community service, social innovation, and non-profit leadership, along with a deep personal connection to AADAP’s mission. His journey began as a substance abuse counselor at AADAP, where he witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of addiction on families in South Los Angeles. His passion for systemic change led him to AADAP’s Prevention Unit, where he managed community projects focused on improving neighborhood conditions and family well-being.

Joo has since dedicated his career to strengthening children, youth, and families through leadership roles at Para Los Ni?os, Magnolia Community Initiative (MCI), and Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC). Most recently, as vice president of student and community services at Para Los Ni?os, he led a team of over 140 employees committed to transforming communities, supporting youth in higher education and career pathways, and empowering families with essential resources.

With his vision, dedication and the full support of the board, AADAP will continue to expand its impact and provide life-changing services to those in need.”

Beyond his leadership in direct service, Joo has been an active advocate for policies that support vulnerable communities. He serves on the Los Angeles County Public Social Services Commission (DPSS) and holds advisory roles with organizations such as the National Academy of Medicine’s Culture of Health Initiative, Casey Family Programs, and USC Lusk Neighborhood Data for Social Change.

“I am honored to return to AADAP, an organization that shaped my early career and instilled in me a lifelong commitment to community empowerment,” said Joo. “AADAP’s mission of providing hope through recovery, prevention, and opportunity is more critical than ever. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, board, and partners to build on AADAP’s legacy and expand its reach to even more individuals and families in need.”
